2018 Race Report

Our race is held on the last Sunday in February each year, with our last one on Sunday 25th February 2018. This year was the 28th running of the Huddersfield 10k.

The weather forecast in the lead up to the race suggested we were in for a very cold but dry day.  This lived up to its promise although bright sunshine warmed up the air.

Continued use of chip timing meant we could manage up to 700 entrants and we are delighted to report that we sold out, and race entries closed mid February.  For the disappointed runners that didn’t get their entry in, we'll be opening entries for the 2019 Huddersfield 10k in early November so get yours submitted in plenty of time.

The men's (and race) winner was Rob James an ‘open category’ member of Royton Road Runners in a time of 36:12 minutes, a 57 second distance ahead of Holmfirth Harriers ‘open category’ Fionn Kerry who came in at 37:09 minutes.  Third place went to Tom Whitworth of Meltham AC who finished in 37:51 minutes.

The female race winner, who was also the first female last year, was Fiona Davies, a female vet over 40 of Rotherham Harriers.  She finished with a time of 39:07, 2:42 minutes faster than last year.   The second female was Sarah Cumber of Halifax Harriers, a female vet over 45 in a time of 40:31.  Third place went to Bridget Coomber for the second year running, a female vet over 50 of Denby Dale AC in 43:10 minutes.

A turnout from Holmfirth Harriers enabled the club to claim both the first and third team prizes in the men's category, and Longwood Harriers took 2nd place.  The ladies team prizes were claimed by Roberttown Road Runners, Holmfirth Harriers and Meltham AC respectively.

Full race results for this and previous years can be found in the table below.

Thank you to everyone who took part and I hope you enjoyed the undulating Yorkshire course and great weather on the day.  We hope to see you again in 2019.
