Running with us

When and where do I turn up?

We meet on Tuesdays at 19:00 for a 19:15 start and on Sundays at 10:00 for a 10:15 start, gathering at the players’ entrance of the Rugby Club at Lockwood Park – click here for a map. If you are travelling by car you can either enter Lockwood Park along Brewery Drive adjacent to Lockwood Bridge or the entrance on Meltham Road.

How far do you usually run?

Typically we will run between six and ten miles, however on a Tuesday evening we have members who will run a shorter distance of around four miles if you prefer a shorter distance to start off with.

Whereabouts do you run?

On Tuesday evenings we run from Lockwood Park where during the summer months we will go off road on the many footpaths in the local area but in the winter we stick to well lit roads. On Sunday mornings we will drive further afield to destinations such as Thurstonland, Marsden, Scammonden Dam or Winscar Reservoir. See our Training Runs page for some of our recent runs.

What if I can’t keep up?

This is a common concern for most runners thinking of joining a running club but don’t worry, we have runners of all abilities and tend to run in small groups of similar pace. Whatever your speed and group you run with, no one gets left behind as any quicker members wait at pre-arranged points or run back to join the group.

Do you enter races as a club?

Although not all our members chose to, the majority do enter some races either individually or with other club members. Those who do are encouraged to enter races in the club colours. In recent years several members have enjoyed club organised European race trips.

Do I need to join the club straight away?

Prospective members are invited to come and run with us on a “try it and see basis” for a few weeks before making the decision to join as a member.

How do I join?

If you decide Huddersfield Road Runners is for you speak to the Club Secretary or any of your fellow runners about how to join, or there is information on our How to Join page.
